Nothing is as versatile and easy to organise as a cosy picnic. Whether as a family outing on a Sunday or with friends after work. All you need is a blanket, a good mood and some food. And the best thing is that you often don't even have to leave the city! So - Attention all spontaneous bon vivants and city lovers! We have put together the best parks in Switzerland with an urban feel for a city picnic.
Zurich: Picnicking in Rieterpark
If it's getting too crowded at the lake and you'd rather find a shady spot under a tree, we recommend Rieterpark. There you can not only enjoy the Museum with its changing art exhibitions, but also feel like being out in the countryside in the middle of the city. Best of all, the park is big enough so that even on a crowded Sunday everyone can find a place.
Lucerne: Linger at the Inseli Park
A little holiday in the middle of the city. The park has pretty much everything you need for a good picnic. A meadow, a breathtaking view of Lake Lucerne, within walking distance of the train station, and two nice little bars to go with your picnic basket. A place for young and old where you can forget about time even in spring.
St.Gallen: Picnicking in the city park
There is something almost magical about the city park in St.Gallen with its old trees, just five minutes from the city centre. The perfect place for a nice picnic. For the little ones, there is a playground and a bird aviary as a highlight. As the largest contiguous green space in the city, this park is also suitable for weekends. Even if many people have the same idea, you're sure to find a spot here.
Zug: The Alpenquai lakeside promenade
The Alpenquai lakeside promenade, not far from Zug's old town, is not only a wonderful place to stroll, but also to picnic! The view of the lake and the mountains is included. Yes, it can get quite crowded when the weather is nice. But since the promenade stretches for a long time, you can always find a cosy spot to linger. Basel: Picnicking in the idyllic Rosenfeld Park
In addition to the well-known Schützenmattpark, the somewhat quieter Rosenfeldpark in Basel Stadt is also perfect for a picnic. The picturesque place was originally laid out as gardens and convinces with beautiful old trees and paths to walk along. A wonderful green oasis in the middle of the city. Playground and water basin make this picnic spot a highlight for children as well.
Bern: Excursion to the Rosengarten Park
Those who put up with the short climb (or alternatively a short bus ride) will be rewarded with a fantastic view over Bern's old town in the Bern Rose Garden Park! The carefully laid out garden is perfect for an excursion followed by a picnic. In addition to the rose bushes that give the park its name, there is also green space for picnics. A detour for the sunset is also worthwhile here!
